OJJDP Hosts Its 2011 National Conference for Children's Justice and Safety
Juvenile justice researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and advocates came from across the country to the OJJDP National Conference, "Children's Justice & Safety: Unite, Build, Lead" to discuss the latest research findings and developments in the field and learn about Department of Justice initiatives.
The conference drew more than 2,300 public officials, tribal representatives, juvenile justice practitioners, policymakers, law enforcement professionals, child advocates, educators, and researchers to address key issues in the juvenile justice field. The event featured 7 plenaries, 330 speakers, and more than 65 workshops and sessions. This event for children's justice and safety was the first national conference OJJDP has held since 2006.
Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden; Attorney General Eric Holder; Deputy Attorney General James Cole; Deputy Associate Attorney General Karol Mason; General Raymond T. Odierno, Chief of Staff for the U.S. Army; and Congressmen Bobby Scott (D-VA) and Chris Murphy (D-CT) were among the many dignitaries who attended.
The conference featured special tracks on children's exposure to violence, anti-gang strategies, child protection and advocacy, truancy and dropping out, at-risk and delinquent girls, trends in tribal youth policy, evidence-based practices, and reforming the treatment of juveniles in custody, among other topics.

OJJDP Releases Multiple Publications at National Conference
During its 2011 National Conference, OJJDP released several new publications. These new publications will provide information about children's exposure to violence, emergency planning, hot spots of juvenile crime, and youth in corrections.
OJJDP Conference Resources
Conference presentation materials from grantee meetings, learning labs, and regular conference sessions are now available. To request materials, visit OJJDP NTTAC's Web site and select OJJDP's 2011 National Conference or OJJDP's 2011 Grantee Meetings and Learning labs.
Please note that some sessions did not have associated presentation materials. Additionally, some presenters have not authorized the release of their training materials. OJJDP NTTAC will notify you if materials are not available for one of these reasons.
