Research and Evaluation

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), serves as a clearinghouse and resource center that collects and distributes data regarding missing and exploited children and operates a national toll-free hotline.

In partnership with OJJDP, NCMEC has offered critical intervention and prevention services to families and has supported law enforcement agencies at the federal, state, and local levels in cases involving missing and exploited children. NCMEC's 24-hour hotline (800–THE–LOST) has received more than 3.47 million calls. Additionally, NCMEC's CyberTipline can be used to submit leads and tips regarding suspected crimes of sexual exploitation committed against children.

NCMEC serves as a partner with with OJP and OJJDP as the missing children clearinghouse and in secondary distribution of reports on behalf of AMBER (America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response) coordinators.

Each year, NCMEC honors law enforcement officers for their work on cases that involve the recovery of missing children and assistance to exploited children.
