Describes what it means to hold juvenile offenders accountable, details the role of the juvenile court and probation department, identifies the key elements of programs that promote accountability, and presents examples of exemplary community-based initiatives. Examples presented are those that incorporate the key elements described in the Bulletin and whose formal evaluations attest to their effectiveness. Examples include diversion programs, mediation and restitution programs, specialized probation supervision programs, and aftercare programs. The Bulletin is part of OJJDP's Juvenile Accountability Block Grants (JABG) Best Practices series.
