Provides information on the history of American youth gangs and current knowledge about gangs. This Bulletin, part of OJJDP's Youth Gang Series, presents an overview of the research examining risk factors associated with gang membership. The focus is on the following five domains: individual and family demographics, personal attributes, peer group, school, and community. Also describes prevention and intervention strategies and programs geared toward gang members and youth at risk of becoming involved in gangs.
