Torre Op-Ed Addresses Children's Exposure to Violence
March 21, 2012
The Miami Herald recently published an op-ed written by former Yankees manager Joe Torre that emphasizes the importance of preventing children's exposure to violence. The op-ed ran in conjunction with the recent public hearing that Attorney General Eric Holder's National Task Force on Children Exposed to Violence convened in Miami. Torre, based on his own personal experiences of abuse by his father, founded the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation to provide education and safe spaces for middle school students who face abusive home environments. Torre now serves as co-chair of the National Task Force on Children Exposed to Violence, a part of the Defending Childhood Initiative.
