Note: Rates are arrests of persons ages 10-17 per 100,000 persons ages 10-17 in the resident population. Persons of Hispanic ethnicity may be of any race, i.e., white, black, American Indian, or Asian. Arrests of Hispanics are not reported separately.

  • For white juveniles and black juveniles, arson arrest rates were essentially equal for most years between 1980 and 2011.
  • Between 1980 and 2011, the arson arrest rate for Asian juveniles stayed within a limited range and was substantially below the rate for other races, averaging 30% of the white rate over the 32-year period. Because the number of arson arrests reported for American Indian juveniles each year was small, arson arrest rate magnitudes and trends for this racial group are unreliable.
