A: Juveniles injure more victims in the hours around the close of school than at any other time.

Note: Violent crimes include murder, violent sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault, and simple assault. Data are from law enforcement agencies in 35 states and the District of Columbia.

  • Violent crime with injury peaks for juvenile offenders at 3 p.m. on school days, dropping substantially following the afterschool hours.
  • In comparison, on nonschool days, violent crime with injury increases throughout the day and peaks between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m
