This fact sheet presents statistics on delinquency cases processed between 1985 and 2009 by U.S. courts with juvenile jurisdiction. From 1985 through 1997, the number of delinquency cases climbed steadily (63 percent) and, from 1997 through 2009, the delinquency caseload dropped 20 percent.
