| | Juvenile Justice Journal, Volume VI, Number 1 (Focus on Girls Issue) | | (NCJ 178254) October 1999 | | OJJDP Juvenile Justice Journal, Journal, 40 page(s) | | Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention | | | | Presents three feature articles, each exploring issues related to girls in the juvenile justice system. The first article describes how addressing the needs of girls—who are the fastest growing segment in the juvenile justice system—is paramount to halting the intergenerational cycle of family fragmentation and crime. The Female Intervention Team, whose mission is to restore hope to young women who have lost their direction and focus and who lack goals, is presented in the second article. Although the problems associated with adolescence are exacerbated for girls in crisis, at-risk girls continue to be misunderstood and underserved. The National Girls' Caucus, the topic of the third article, was formed to ensure equitable treatment for girls in the juvenile justice system. An In Brief section examines The Juvenile Rights Advocacy Project and presents training and technical assistance resources and publications related to girls. | |
