| | Kids and Guns | | (NCJ 178994) March 2000 | | OJJDP National Report Series, Bulletin, 12 page(s) | | Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention | | | | Presents an overview of statistics indicative of the impact of gun availability on the lives of youth. This Bulletin examines data on gun use in homicides committed by and against juveniles, weapons arrest rates, relationship of handgun carrying to other problem behaviors, and firearm-related suicide. The Bulletin notes that the recent decline in firearm-related juvenile homicides and suicides is encouraging and reinforces the need to remain vigilant in keeping weapons out of the hands of children. The Bulletin is part of the 1999 National Report Series. Each Bulletin in the series highlights selected themes at the forefront of juvenile justice policymaking and extracts relevant National Report sections (including selected graphs and tables). | |
