Juvenile Justice Journal, Volume VIII, Number 1 (School Violence Issue)
(NCJ 188158) June 2001
OJJDP Juvenile Justice Journal, Journal, 40 page(s)
Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention
Examines the nature of school violence and reviews promising approaches to creating safe schools and resolving conflicts peacefully. The first article in this issue of OJJDP's Juvenile Justice Journal outlines the issue of school violence by drawing on data related to the occurrence of crime in the Nation's schools. Authors of the second article discuss comprehensive safe school planning, which, if properly conceived and implemented, would help foster a safer environment for students and teachers. The third article proposes that conflict resolution education could be used in schools to prepare youth for a less violent future. Publications and resources designed to help promote safe schools are described in the In Brief section.
