YouthBuild U.S.A.
(NCJ 188259) May 2001
OJJDP Youth in Action Series, Fact Sheet, 2 page(s)
Hernandez, R.
The Fact Sheet describes the YouthBuild program, which harnesses the positive energies of unemployed young adults to rebuild their communities and their own lives through a commitment to work, education, responsibility, and family. In 145 YouthBuild programs across the country, young people learn construction skills by building or renovating affordable housing in their communities. Since 1993, YouthBuild students have built more than 7,000 low-income housing units, and 85 percent of those who complete the program go on to college or construction-related jobs.
