Describes the major accomplishments of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) during fiscal year (FY) 1998 and discusses the philosophy that guided program plans. The Report highlights a variety of research, statistical, demonstration, training, technical assistance, and information dissemination initiatives; provides an overview of how States and territories are using formula and block grant funds from OJJDP to improve juvenile justice systems and prevent delinquency, with supporting statistical charts; describes OJJDP efforts to help missing and exploited children; and summarizes the latest available information on juveniles taken into custody. A list of OJJDP publications released in FY 1998 is also included.
