The COVID-19 pandemic had significant effects on all stages of the juvenile justice system, including juvenile residential facilities, which may have impacted multiple aspects of the 2020 JRFC data, such as reporting, the number of youth in residential placement, and the services received.
- Provision of treatment services varied by type of facility and service type in 2020. Long-term secure facilities were most likely to report providing mental health services, reception/diagnostic centers were most likely to report substance abuse services, and long-term secure and reception/diagnostic centers were most likely to report providing sex offender services and violent offender services.
- With the exception of reception/diagnostic centers, relatively few facilities report offering arson services.
