Juvenile Residential Facility Census, 2018: Selected Findings. OJJDP-Produced, NIJ-Produced, December 2020. Nationally, 37,529 juvenile offenders were held in 1,510 residential placement facilities on October 24, 2018. Facilities that hold juvenile offenders vary in their operation, type, size, security features, screening practices, and services provided. To better understand the characteristics of these facilities, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) sponsors the Juvenile Residential Facility Census (JRFC), a biennial survey of public and private juvenile residential facilities in every state. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention: Fiscal Year 2019 Annual Report. OJJDP-Produced, July 2020. In fiscal year 2019, the Office awarded more than $323 million to support state, local, and tribal efforts to deter delinquency and safeguard children. This report summarizes OJJDP's activities to promote youth mentoring and address gang and gun violence, substance use disorders, and the maltreatment and exploitation of children. OJJDP also supported the work of juvenile prosecutors and enhancements to community supervision and reentry programs. Girls in the Juvenile Justice System. OJJDP-Produced, May 2019. This bulletin presents statistics covering girls' involvement in the juvenile justice system from arrest through residential placement. The findings show that arrests involving girls fell by more than 50% between 2006 and 2015. In 2015, law enforcement agencies in the United States made an estimated 921,600 arrests of persons younger than age 18. Girls accounted for 269,900 of those arrests, or less than one-third; however, their involvement varied by offense. NCJ 251486. 24 pages.

Juvenile Residential Facility Census 2016: Selected Findings. OJJDP-Produced, December 2018. OJJDP's biennial Juvenile Residential Facility Census collects data on how juvenile facilities operate and the services they provide. Data from the 2016 census indicate that the number of youth in residential placement continues to decline, a trend that has lasted nearly two decades. In 2016, more youth were held in county, city, or municipally operated facilities on the census date than were held in state-operated facilities. Delinquency Cases in Juvenile Court, 2014. OJJDP-Produced, March 2018. This fact sheet presents statistics on delinquency cases handled in U.S. juvenile courts between 2005 and 2014. In 2014, juvenile courts in the United States handled nearly 975,000 delinquency cases that involved juveniles charged with criminal law violations. The delinquency caseload fell to fewer than 1 million cases for the first time since the mid-1970s. From 2005 through 2014, the number of delinquency cases declined 42 percent across all four offense categories: property offenses (down 46 percent), public order offenses (down 44 percent), person offenses (down 40 percent), and drug law violations (down 30 percent). 4 pages.
