Story Behind the Numbers: A Qualitative Evaluation of the Houston, TX Truancy Reduction Demonstration Program

This paper presents a summary of findings from three focus groups held to help gauge the effectiveness of the Gulfton Truancy Reduction Demonstration Project in Houston, Texas. Focus groups included: high school and program staff (including police officers), the students receiving the services, and parents of those students. Topics discussed included the experiences with the programs, perceptions of program effectiveness, and opinions about what worked well and what could be improved.
