January 13, 2015

In a new online video, Attorney General Eric Holder announced the addition of Facebook and Bing tools to expand the reach of the AMBER Alert early warning system of urgent child abduction cases. This announcement comes on AMBER Alert Awareness Day, recognizing the AMBER Alert program, a partnership of law enforcement and transportation agencies, broadcasters, Internet service providers, and the wireless industry. Facebook AMBER alerts will be sent to users in designated search areas, and Bing users can access alerts through the search engine’s online broadcast tools. The U.S. Department of Justice and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) coordinate the AMBER Alert program nationally. AMBER Alerts have led to the safe recovery of more than 700 abducted children to date.
