- Fewer than half (44%) of all juvenile residential facilities nationwide held only male offenders on October 23, 2019. Female-only facilities accounted for 8% of all facilities. The remaining facilities held both male and female offenders. A substantially larger proportion of public facilities (61%) than private facilities (28%) held both males and females. A greater proportion of private facilities (14%) than public facilities (5%) held only females on the census day.
