How to build a table in the Population Profile option

Let's say you want to build a table containing the Sex (row variable) by Race (column variable) profile for a particular jurisdiction in 2019. For this example, let's assume that you are interested in a specific age group, say 0 to 5. Follow these steps:

  1. Use the "select a State" and "Select a County" pull down menus to pick the location of interest.
  2. Select Sex and Race from the pull down menus labeled "Row variable" and "Column variable," respectively.
  3. Place a check mark in the box next to 2019. Tip: When selecting multiple years, use the drop down menus in the "Year range" box to select the lower and upper year boundaries for your table. Then click "Set year" and it will check off the years of interest for you. Note: If no year is selected, the table will default to the current data year.
  4. Place a check mark in the box next to the ages that fit your needs. In this case, select the individual ages of 0 to 5. Tip: When selecting multiple ages, use the drop down menus in the "Age range" box to select the lower and upper age boundaries for your table. Then click "Set age" and it will check off the years of interest for you.
  5. Click the "Show Table" button.

By selecting these specific ages, the table will contain the 2019 Sex by Race breakdown of youth ages 0 to 5 for the selected jurisdiction.

How to build a table in the State Comparison option

By default, individual States (including U.S. totals) always form the rows for the State comparison table. As such, you only need to supply the Year, Column variable, and selection criteria, if any, in order to create a state comparison table. Follow these steps:

  1. Select Race from the pull down menu labeled Column variable.

Tip: When selecting multiple ages, use the drop down menus in the "Age range" box to select the lower and upper age boundaries for your table. Then click "Set age" and it will check off the years of interest for you.
  4. Click the "Show Table" button.

By selecting these specific ages, the table will display the racial population of each State for persons ages 10 to 17.
