Q: Does the time of day for violent crime with a firearm vary for adults and youth?
A: The daily timing of violent crime involving the use of a firearm are similar for youth (ages 7-17) and adults (18 and older).
Note: Violent crimes include murder, violent sexual assault, robbery, and aggravated assault.
Data are from law enforcement agencies in 45 states and the District of Columbia.
  • Youth and adults are most likely to commit a violent crime with a firearm between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. Nearly one-fourth (24%) of violent crime involving the use of a firearm committed by youth takes place between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. For adults, about one-fifth (21%) of violent crime involving the use of a firearm takes place between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.
