In 2020, vaping of marijuana or nicotine was higher for high school seniors than for 8th or 10th graders. |
- Although vaping of marijuana and nicotine were only added to the Monitoring the Future survey in 2017, the data show that vaping behaviors have increased considerably in the last 4 years. For example, the proportion of high school seniors vaping nicotine increased nearly 14-percentage points between 2017 and 2020, followed by an 11-percentage point increase for 10th graders.
- The increases from 2017-2018 were the largest one-year increases ever seen for any substance in the history of the MTF survey (see https://www.drugabuse.gov/about-nida/noras-blog/2018/12/monitoring-future-survey-results-show-alarming-rise-in-teen-vaping for more information about the change between 2017-2018).
