S., Tierney, N. | Profiles more than 1.7 million delinquency cases and 158,000 status offense cases handled by the juvenile courts in 1997. Detailed information is provided on the offenses involved, referral sources, detention practices, and case dispositions. This OJJDP Report, the 71st in the Juvenile Court Statistics series, also includes demographic characteristics of offending juveniles and describes various trends since 1988. The national caseload estimates for 1997 contained in this report were based on approximately 917,400 automated case records plus court-level statistics summarizing nearly 217,400 additional cases. Data were contributed to the National Juvenile Court Data Archive by nearly 2,000 courts (with jurisdiction over 71 percent of the juvenile population).
