Q: What is the age profile of child maltreatment victims?
A: More than one-third of victims of child maltreatment in 2019 were under age 4.
Note:The data in this table reflects unique counts of child victims. This table is based on sample data reported by a varying number of states.
  • In 2019, infants and toddlers (ages 0 to 3) accounted for one-third (34%) of victims; the highest proportion of victims were youth under one (15.0%).
  • Older youth accounted for the smallest proportion of victims; 17-year-olds were just 2.4% of child maltreatment victims in 2019.
