Q: How does offender age vary with victim age in sexual assault?
A: Young juveniles (under age 12) are most likely to be sexually assaulted by persons under age 18.
Note: Sexual assault includes rape, sodomy, sexual assault with an object, and fondling.
Data are from law enforcement agencies in 38 states and the District of Columbia.
  • Forty percent of sexual assault victims under age 12 were victimized by a juvenile (under 18) offender, and 33% of juvenile victims ages 12 to 17 were sexually assaulted by a juvenile offender.
