This July/August issue of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) publication provides top stories, special features, and other new relating to the juvenile justice system.

Abstract

This issue's lead story highlights a presentation by members of the National Research Council on the findings and recommendations of an OJJDP-funded report on recent advances in scientific understanding of adolescent brain development; it is suggested that these findings should be more fully incorporated into juvenile justice policies and practices. Special features in this issue include: an OJJDP report on four listening sessions held with families and youth who had direct experiences with the juvenile justice system; OJJDP's national training and technical assistance resources; a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services letter encouraging State and Tribal governments to integrate trauma-informed screening, assessments of child well-being and functioning, and evidence-based practices into their services to children and families; and a comprehensive list of upcoming events.
